Brett Favre Boycott

I am seriously considering a Brett Favre boycott on my blog. The Brett Favre news reports are getting ridiculous! And I am talking about the actual NEWS media reports, you know the PRESS – the people who are supposed to get it right and report truthful information to the masses.

I swear they sit around the newsroom and say - it’s a slow day, let’s report a Brett Favre story and ‘bam’ one is created – true or not.

On Monday, we all heard that the Minnesota Vikings (who exactly is it when they refer to the whole team – Brad Childress, Zygi Wilf, the secretary? Who?) imposed an end of the week deadline on Brett Favre to make a decision on whether he is going to join the Minnesota Vikings or not. I heard it on ESPN, but the local news was reporting the same deadline story. Then Yesterday, I heard Brad Childress himself say there is no such deadline in place. I was like, what? Come on.

I was actually excited to hear about the deadline. At one point I wanted Brett Favre to be a Viking no matter what hoops we had to jump through to get to him, but now I just want to know – “What is it going to be, boy? Yes or No?” (in true Meatloaf fashion) – I am sick of the “sleeping on it” status.

Even though I'm a Vikings fan at heart, I always did have a love for Brett even while he was playing for the Packers... I was hoping that the deadline rumors were true so that we would know if he was coming here or not.

Any word if his "superstar" status will raise ticket prices?

Ugh I agree! Let's not talk about him every single day, at least not until he is/isn't signed!!

Hannah,

I believe Brett Favre will definitely raise Vikings ticket demand and thus raise Vikings ticket prices.

As if the Vikings Packer game wasn't popular enough - just imagine how hard it will be to get a ticket now!

Unfortunately the Viking fans have not been given the true picture of Brett Favre. For many years my wife and I had the pleasure of being in the Packer locker room after home games. We were there the first game Brett played replacing "Magic" the starting quarterback. You saw a young enthusiastic kid in a man's body. He never changed and was respected by everyone. It all changed when Ted Thompson arrived. You could feel it from the players themselves. Ted wanted it to be his team. He did not want the ghosts of Ron Wolf, Mike Holmgren and Brett Favre stealing his thunder. It was clear from the start even his coaching picks were those with little experience. He wanted a team totally committed to him. It is a well know fact by everyone in Green Bay and even Mike McCarthy the coach said the same, that prior to his first draft Ted said one thing and did another. He promised to get class receivers but instead with his first pick he drafted a quarterback. Believe me this effected Favre along with some other players. From then on there was no love lost between Favre and Thompson. Thompson is carrying demons and he wants to be the king. With his team finally in serious trouble he brought in experienced defensive coach Don Capers. Ted knows this could be his last year. He does not have the backing of Green Bay fans. Remember this guy offered Favre $30,000,000 to stay retired. What does that say to all the writers who say Favre is money hungry. When Randy Moss was on the block Ted said he would follow up but never even called Moss' agent. Believe me Brett has not been at his best but this is a truly good guy. You should have seen him and Reggie White when the Packers were on top. These two giants acted like high school players, who really loved the game. Brett wanted to be a Viking from the get-go when this all started. Ted made sure that did not happen. Brett is closed to many of the Vikings staff and knows the system. I can only say to Viking fans you will get one great guy. I along with many hope his arm proves to be okay and that the Vikings have a good year. The young quarterback you have will learn a lot from Brett and will have many successful years to come. Although I am a Packer fan I have always like the Vikings back to the days of Bud Grant. I along with many Packer fans will be pulling for Brett when he faces the Packers, not because we dislike the Packers but because of what Ted Thompson has done to not only Brett but to Green Bay fans. Viking fans you are getting a great quarterback if he does become a Viking. He is one terrific guy and don't believe the many articles written to the contrary.

Ken is absolutely right. I'd encourage fans to construct a timeline of Thompson's arrival in GB, his gutting the offensive line, Favre's hesitation in returning year after year (really starts with the Thompson era). Thompson may/may not make good choices, but he is not good with people, and he has never had any use for Brett Favre.
Minnesota Vikings fans, you are so lucky, even if you get him for a year. He makes games exciting, memorable, fun, and legendary.
